We welcomed a new Catechumen on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Doreen Kruk has been on a long journey discovering and yearning to become an Orthodox Christian. She started her journey at Saint Mary’s at the end of summer. As Father Timothy Hasenecz laid his hands and prayed over Doreen, tears of joy streamed down her face as she has truly accepted the Orthodox Faith. Saint Mary’s welcomes her with a warm heart and prays that God continues to guide her in her journey to Orthodoxy!
On Saturday, March 2nd, the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania will be hosting an Orthodox women’s retreat from 10AM-3PM in Stroudsburg. The title of the seminar is: THE GIFT OF COMPASSION: From God to Us —Through Us, to Others. Please RSVP by February 24.

The parish will once again collect donations for Birthright before and during Great Lent. Birthright is an international organization that provides counseling and material help to mothers and their children both during and after pregnancy. The Birthright office we will be donating to is in Frackville, Pennsylvania, so donations will directly help our neighbors.
As Orthodox Christians, we are obliged to defend the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. Shamefully, over 800,000 babies are legally murdered in the womb each year in the United States. We must pray and work to end this crime against God and man, and one of the best means at our disposal is to provide encouragement and care for young mothers facing an unexpected pregnancy. Please give generously.

Please note that we are moving several services to Holy Ascension in Frackville to assist their choir and to share in the joy of Pascha with our Orthodox brothers from across Schuylkill County. These changes are temporary and a regular schedule of services at St. Mary’s will resume after Pascha. Another update will be made shortly regular the resumption of regular Sunday Obednitsas with a deacon.
In addition to donating their time and money to make some delicious homemade food for the Craft and Hobby Fair, the wonderful parishioners of St. Mary’s have assembled an assortment of raffle baskets for you. We will have:
On top of that, we will have seven local vendors selling everything from jewelry and clothing to woodcraft, books, and games. Plus the aforementioned homemade halushki, barbecue, hot dogs, and baked goods! There is something for everybody here, so bring the whole family!
And don’t forget to ask for a tour of our beautiful church, including our icons and restored iconostasis, and to learn more about Orthodox Christianity. When the craft fair is over, join us in praising and giving thanksgiving to God at evening Vespers, starting at 4PM.
We are pleased to announce a menu of homemade food available at our Craft and Hobby Fair on Saturday, February 4th.
We will also be raffling off several themed gift baskets, with more info to be provided presently.
Prices are TBA. All food and gift basket proceeds will benefit St. Mary’s Orthodox Church.
